Technology at Devon Intermediate School

We are very lucky to be able to go to Devon Intermediate School to learn a variety of skills.  We're designing and making clocks in woodwork and a container in metalwork.  During the music sessions we've been writing our own clapping music and performing it as a group.  In the kitchen, we're been making some delicious snacks and meals that always create a mouth watering scent in the corridor!

Communication is the key

During a previous weeks leadership session with Kelly Sports, we were put into teams and asked to travel a certain distance.  We had to do this whilst constantly being connected to our team mates.  This was a huge challenge, where we learnt the importance of clear communication and teamwork.  Only one team was successful at this task.  We also used our improving communication skills when we were asked to take part in a ski race.  One leader communicating in this task proved the most successful method.

Running the gauntlet

During leadership this week, our warm up activity was to run the gauntlet of balls.  This was an entertaining and nerve wracking experience.  Getting through the gauntlet without being hit meant that you receive a point for your team, but it also meant that you had to run again!

Indoor Bowls

On Thursday, the Oakura Indoor Bowls team taught us some new skills.  They patiently showed us the techniques used and explained the game.  We all got really involved and had a great time.  We're looking forward to our next session where a team will be selected to enter the Intermediate Bowls competition at Hampton Hall in Okato.

Leadership with Kelly sports 2

This week in our leadership training we learnt the importance of communication to achieve a goal.  Our first task was to travel a short distance with two hoops and a team of 5 friends.  The catch was that we all had to stay inside a hoop.  We then had the challenge of working as a team to keep our own balloon off the ground as well as a couple of other balloons that we're added into our team area.  We managed to last 1 minute and 6 seconds with all the balloons in the air.

Observational drawing

We have started our observational drawing unit by having a go at drawing our hand or a leaf.  We decided that to be good at observational drawing, we needed to look very closely at all the details and draw exactly what we could see.
